States across America are updating their laws regarding the recycling of electronics, computers and other business equipment that doesn’t fit into typical recycling categories like paper or plastic.

In Maryland, a new law orders government offices to “recycle their end-of-life electronics through processors that meet internally-developed standards.”

Meanwhile, the new Hawaii Electronic Device Recycling Task Force has been assembled to issue recommendations and serve as a guidance body for Hawaii’s electronics recycling program.

In Indiana, minor revisions have been made to the state’s existing e-scrap program. Among other changes, the state will provide Indiana districts with consumer education and material handling best practices information, designed to help in their e-scrap efforts.

For our business customers here in New York and New Jersey, there are established standards and rules for the disposal of unwanted office equipment, electronics, laptops and other e-waste items.

In an earlier blog post, we talked about the breakdown of e-waste in New York City. For those in the New Jersey area, the “Electronics Waste Management Act” details the rules around computer recycling. Since 2011, it has been illegal to throw computers, monitors, laptops and televisions in the garbage.

Whether you are in New York or New Jersey, our electronics recycling team will pick up your unwanted items for FREE at your place of business, and even pay you for any items that can be refurbished and resold.
