New York City Companies Discover Benefits of “Green” Business Surplus Liquidation

New York City businesses large and small, old and new, have one thing in common: Excess inventory and unwanted office equipment they are desperate to get rid of.

Keeping excess inventory on the books affects every company’s bottom line. Meanwhile, how many of these same businesses are wasting high-priced office space to store some old business equipment they haven’t used in years?

That’s where Recycling New York, Inc. comes in.

We’re famous for recycling old computer and electronic equipment in NYC. Yet, we also specialize in paying top dollar for your business surplus and excess inventory, too.

It won’t cost you anything in terms of time or money – in fact, when your New York City business works with us, you can even make money! Here’s how:

  • At no charge, our team comes to your location and takes away your business surplus, office equipment and excess inventory.
  • Next, we assess your items and will offer you top dollar for everything, right on the spot.

This can be done one of two different ways:

  • Recycling New York, Inc. can send out our procurement specialist to assess your equipment and make you an offer. If you accept our offer, we will pay you the amount and then pick up the items free of charge.
  • Alternatively, your business may choose to let Recycling New York, Inc. sell your “stuff” on consignment, in which case we’ll share the profits with you.

Either way, partnering with Recycling New York, Inc. to dispose of your unwanted office equipment and surplus inventory is a better alternative to just throwing it all away with the rest of the trash.

Not only do you get some money back for your items, but you’ll know that none of it ended up in an overcrowded landfill, leeching paint, metal and other dangerous toxins into the New York City water table and surrounding environment.

So don’t throw cash out with the trash!

Recycling New York, Inc. will happily take almost anything off your company’s hands, help you liquidate excess inventory and used office equipment, and make you a generous offer for it all.

Old Computers, Electronics – A “Goldmine” of Precious Metals

Did you know that discarded computers and electronic equipment contain “deposits” of precious metals “40 to 50 times richer than ores mined from the ground”?

That’s the startling claim made in a new report from the United Nations University and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative.

Each year, 320 tons of gold and 7,5000 tons of silver go into the making of new consumer electronics and other gadgets and equipment. Yet, only 15% of these precious metals are recovered from the old, used equipment, or e-waste.

Instead, most of it ends up in landfills, going to waste while polluting the surrounding land and water.

When businesses throw their unwanted electronics and computers into the garbage, they are literally throwing away money.

The wiser option is to work with a company that specializes in recycling, refurbishing and reselling your used items.

Recycling New York, Inc. will make you an offer for any used electronic equipment you have that has resale value. We will recycle the rest in the most eco-friendly way possible.

Don’t toss out your potentially valuable office items and electronics without contacting Recycling New York, Inc. first!

Most Electronic Waste Still Not Being Recycled –But It’s Easier Than You Think

According to a new report by Global Industry Analysts, a shocking 82% of all obsolete electronic and computer equipment goes unrecycled, to the tune of millions of tons a year.

The increase in these waste materials from electronic and electrical devices – materials like plastics, metals and silica — is leading to over capacity of incinerators and landfills:

“Uncontrolled disposal, dismantling, and burning are major environmental issues and often lead to surface water pollution, atmospheric pollution, and groundwater contamination, in addition to causing health and occupational safety hazards mainly resulting from the indirect and direct exposure to toxic elements in recycling plants.”

“The problem is fuelled by rapid advancements in technology, faster replacement cycles, and greater availability of recycled and new devices,” the report continues.

According to these analysts, the demand for computer and electronic equipment recycling is going to increase steadily year after year.

These experts add that electronic waste from developed nations such as the U.S. and Europe are often dumped in developing nations such as China, Thailand and India, where it is recycled using conventional and crude methods.

This is why Recycling New York, Inc. NEVER exports the old equipment we get from our business clients in the New York and New Jersey area.

Instead, all our recycling, refurbishing and resale activities are performed in America.

It’s one of the ways we help your company “go green” and do it safely and ethically. That’s just good business!

UN: Computer and Electronics Recycling Is an International Issue

E-waste such as old, used computers, discarded electronics and other obsolete appliances and equipment is an international problem.

According to UN estimates, people around the world throw away between 20 and 50 million metric tons of computers and peripherals every year.

Some individuals are concerned about just where this e-waste is ending up.

Did you know that much of the electronics recycling and dumping ends up in landfills? Unfortunately, electronics and computers were never meant to be sent to such facilities. They aren’t made of materials like paper that eventually break down safely in the landfill.

Instead, discarded electronics equipment clogging up landfills can end up leaking toxic metals into the surrounding soil and water. It’s a situation in which well intentioned “recycling” ends up doing more harm than good!

Other discarded computers, peripherals and electronics are shipped overseas, to refurbishing companies in Asian and African countries. Some people are concerned that these workers may not be compensated fairly. Others worry about the quality of electronics that are being “refurbished” abroad and resold in North America.

At Recycling New York, we do NOT ship your old computers, phones, faxes and other surplus items overseas for refurbishing. We also NEVER send it to landfills.

Instead, Recycling New York disposes of your e-waste in the most environmentally-friendly way available, and ensures that any refurbishing is conducted here in America.

States Across America Updating E-Waste Regulations

States across America are updating their laws regarding the recycling of electronics, computers and other business equipment that doesn’t fit into typical recycling categories like paper or plastic.

In Maryland, a new law orders government offices to “recycle their end-of-life electronics through processors that meet internally-developed standards.”

Meanwhile, the new Hawaii Electronic Device Recycling Task Force has been assembled to issue recommendations and serve as a guidance body for Hawaii’s electronics recycling program.

In Indiana, minor revisions have been made to the state’s existing e-scrap program. Among other changes, the state will provide Indiana districts with consumer education and material handling best practices information, designed to help in their e-scrap efforts.

For our business customers here in New York and New Jersey, there are established standards and rules for the disposal of unwanted office equipment, electronics, laptops and other e-waste items.

In an earlier blog post, we talked about the breakdown of e-waste in New York City. For those in the New Jersey area, the “Electronics Waste Management Act” details the rules around computer recycling. Since 2011, it has been illegal to throw computers, monitors, laptops and televisions in the garbage.

Whether you are in New York or New Jersey, our electronics recycling team will pick up your unwanted items for FREE at your place of business, and even pay you for any items that can be refurbished and resold.

Recycling New York is completely familiar with all the laws and regulations regarding electronic waste in both states. Leave the details to us while you get on with your business.

Report: Computer Recycling to Grow by Millions of Tons by 2025

New York Recycling specializes in the safe, eco-friendly disposal of old computers and other electronics (or “e-scrap”). There is a growing need for the data destruction and electronic recycling services in the New York and New Jersey area.

Here are the facts: If electronic devices are not recycled properly then old electronic equipment ends up in dumped landfills, which can create a serious environmental hazard. DID YOU KNOW that the total amount of e-scrap being successfully recycled will grow from 18% in 2010 to 54% in 2025?

Millions of additional tons of obsolete computers and other equipment are being recycled and/or reused every single year.

A new report from Pike Research, “Electronics Recycling and E-Waste Issues”, looks at factors we should consider as we improve the computer recycling process: economic, legislative and environmental.

(A summary of this report is available at the Pike Research website.)

“The key players in the consumer electronics product sectors are all large multinational companies that have in one form or another adopted concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability,” says Pike Research Vice President Bob Gohn. “Implementation and deployment vary from company to company, though, and some are more robust in their efforts than others.”

Indeed, one of the biggest producers of consumer electronics seems to be behind the times in this regard. As noted by Henry Leineweber of Resource Recycling, that company is Apple, Inc. According to Leineweber, the new MacBook Pro is “thinner, lighter and [comes with] with a higher-resolution screen.” However, he claims, “These new features come at the price of recyclability.”

For example, the new MacBook Pro features “non-upgradeable RAM and hard drive units, proprietary pentalobe screws, the touted ‘Retina Display’ fused to the laptop’s casing, and battery cells that are glued to the housing.”

When a computer is hard to take apart, the reuse and recycling process of electronics such as these can be difficult if not impossible.

It will be interesting to watch as various companies begin redesigning their products as consumers and governments start demanding that electronics be reliable AND recyclable!
