New Jersey Electronics Recycling: The Dos and Don’ts

New Jersey businesses invest in new computers, phone systems and other office equipment every year. Unfortunately, many don’t realize that they can recycle their old computers instead of just throwing them out with the trash.  “While e-waste only accounts for two percent of the U.S. garbage in landfills,” according to Earth911.com, “it accounts for 70 percent of overall toxic garbage.” That toxic waste includes heavy and precious metals like copper, gold and lead. Along with representing a senseless waste of valuable commodities, this also means the ground water around the landfill is being polluted. This pollution in turn ends up in the Garden State’s food and water supply.  New Jersey electronics recycling is a much better option in order to keep the unnecessary pollution out of our state.

According to Earth911.com, “as much as 99 percent of all materials from electronics are reused in a different capacity or sold.” This means your company’s unwanted computer equipment can be easily be put to a different use, in the hands of a company like ours.  We specializes in New Jersey electronics recycling, business liquidation and data destruction.

Our team will come directly to your New Jersey business location, then take your old computers and more away for processing – FREE!  In fact, if your discarded computers have resale value, Recycling New York, Inc. will make you an offer!

Copper Recycling From Old Computers Expected to Increase

Did you know that the average desktop computer contains up to five pounds of copper? Or that old-fashioned cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and computer monitors also contain copper?
As demand for copper increases along with its price, people are turning their attention to discarded computers and electronics as sources of this essential metal.  In fact, New York computer recycling has been a more practical solution because of this copper demand increases.

At a recent meeting of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Jason Schenker of Prestige Economics said, “I am bullish on copper for 2013 and beyond.”  The good news is, we specialize in salvaging copper, gold, silver and other precious and/or toxic metals and materials from your obsolete computers, phone systems and other equipment.

When you contact Recycling New York, Inc, we come to your company and haul away your “e-waste” at no charge to you.  Better yet, if your company’s e-waste has any residual value, we will make you an offer. New iPhone 5 Release a Reminder To Recycle Old Cellphones

On September 12, 2012, Apple unveiled their eagerly awaited iPhone 5. This version of their popular smart phone has a bigger screen and more powerful chip, and claims to make wireless Internet speeds even faster. The iPhone 5 will also be even lighter and thinner than the previous model.  The phone goes on sale September 21. If history is any indication, Apple fans will be lining up early to get their hands on the new iPhone 5.  However, lost in all the buzz about the new Apple iPhone is the problem of what will happen to all the old mobile phones about to be discarded by consumers when they purchase the new one.  Recycling New York would like to remind you our NYC electronics recycling services.

The fact is, cellphones of all kinds can and should be recycled when they are no longer wanted.  According to one source, approximately 7% of cell phone owners simply toss their obsolete cellphones in the trash. This sounds like a low percentage, but keep in mind that tens of millions of mobile phones are in use in the United States at any given time!  The problem is that cell phones contain toxic components that, if thrown into landfills, will eventually leech into the surrounding soil and water, thereby contaminating the food supply. It also means that already overflowing landfills are filled with mobile phones and other electronics, computers and “gadgets” that could just as easily be recycled with our NYC electronics recycling services.

Cell phone batteries and circuit boards contain precious metals like gold, silver and copper, along with hazardous materials like lead.  Many of these and other rare components have to be mined at great expense, and processed in ways that increase pollution.   By removing these valuable and reusable components from mobile phones during recycling, we can reduce need for all the mining that already destroys natural habits around the globe.

How the EU’s “WEEE” Directive on E-Waste Affects Your Business

In 2003, the European Union unveiled the “Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive” (or “WEEE” for short.) The program’s goal: to collect 10 million tons of obsolete, discarded electronic equipment and computers within the EU by 2020.  As the tenth anniversary of the Directive approaches, many experts are taking the opportunity to evaluate this ambitious program. Others are wondering how the U.S. compares to Europe when it comes to recycling e-waste.

For example, the “WEEE” directive bans the export of hazardous “First World” e-waste to “Third World” countries. However, many American companies continue to ship potentially toxic and dangerous computer equipment and other “gadgets” for processing in China, India and developing nations.

At Recycling New York, Inc., on the other hand, we never export used and unwanted equipment. When your New Jersey or New York company works with us to dispose of its e-waste, every piece of it is processed here in America.  The “WEEE” directive also orders equipment manufacturers to “initiate some kind of recycling program” for any products it made after 2005. According to a report by Waste & Recycling News:  “The U.S. has not only met this challenge, but exceeded it. Green groups around the country have pushed electronic manufacturers to approach the design of their products with their afterlives in mind. Large electronic manufacturing companies, like Apple, now construct their products using reduced quantities of hazardous-to-destruct materials, like mercury, aluminum, and glass for safer future recycling.”

Recycling New York, Inc. is one of the few private companies leading the way in the safe, responsible recycling of computers, office equipment and other electronic goods.   Contact Recycling New York, Inc. to learn how your New York or New Jersey company can quickly and easily dispose of obsolete equipment, surplus inventory and other items you might not have considered “recyclable.”
